The clock on the nightstand repeatedly shows "60:00" before the shock of the clock setting itself to 60:00 actually happens.

During the scene where Mike unplugs the clock radio from the outlet, the liquor bottle that he was given disappears from the table for a few shots, then eventually returns.

After Mike has lit the room on fire, the sprinklers come on.

Right before he throws the ash tray out the window, his hair goes from messy to slicked back to messy again.

In the scene where Mike Enslin is lying on the floor in the cold wrapped in the comforter, you can see the bottle of liquor very close to his head.

In the next scene when he hears Lily Enslin on his laptop and gets up to try to talk to her, the bottle is much further away.

When Lily Enslin gets into the cab, the medallion number changes from the outside shot of her entering the vehicle, to when she is shown on the inside.

The amount of blood on the door from Mike's left hand changes between shots.

When Mike Enslin sees his daughter in the room for the last time, when she's crying and hugging him, the streak of blood coming down from his right ear changes repeatedly between shots.

When Mike Enslin sees his daughter in the room for the last time, when she's crying and hugging him, her arms go from being on his shoulders to under his arms back and forth several times.

After being in the heating ducts, when Mike falls out of the ceiling grate he is still soaking wet but when he stands up, immediately after, he is almost dry.

When Mike Enslin is holding his "dead" daughter and they move to a close up on her face, you can see her eyes twitch.

Before and after the "Blue Light Scan" scene, there is a chocolate on the pillow.

During the scan, there is no chocolate.

When Mike contacts his wife using his laptop, it is clear that he's using Windows XP (blue taskbar with the green Start button), however when the sprinklers go off, the well-known Blue Screen Of Death is of the Windows 98 type'Windows' in white on grey background, the rest of the screen being blue, and the error message centered on the screen.

The XP BSOD type is simply a little darker blue with white text aligned to the left.

The hunting picture over the bed shows the horse reared up a couple of scenes before Mike sees the changes in all the paintings.

While Mike Enslin is lying on the floor, his hand goes in and out of the bed comforter repeatedly.

However, as this happens with each change of shot and is a very obvious inconsistency, it's almost certainly deliberate and done for thematic effect.

Especially as, moments later, he keeps changing between lying down and being propped up in between shots, apparently without moving.

When Mike Enslin is on the ledge outside, the size of the ledge changes.

When there is a shot of just his feet, he appears to only be able to fit half of his foot on the ledge at most, however when there are long shots which include Enslin's feet, they are fully on the ledge and are given about an inch of space.

However, as the movie's main theme is based around reality and Mike's (and therefore our) perception of it, this may well be deliberate - the ledge really is wide enough for his feet but to his eyes it's far too narrow, thus heightening his fear.

Right after Mike's hand is crushed by the window, the window is closed.

Right after the phone rings, and he tries to leave the room (right before the key breaks) the window is open in the background.

Towards the end where Mike is rescued by the firefighters, one of the firefighters' number on his helmet is backwards, indicating that the negative was "flipped".

If no electronic gadgets can work in the room how does Mike's laptop work? The room is meant to mess with Enslin's mind, so it would be guessed that letting him use these items are for mere amusement of the room.

When Mike drops the phone down, the receiver is placed in front of the phone, however when he comes back to it again, the cord wire is now wrapped around the telephone and the receiver is behind the phone.

When Mike sees him hang himself with bed sheets in the mirror, it's very obvious that the person (a stunt double), is wearing a harness, as the the sheets are centered several inches behind his neck even when he bounces and comes to a stop.

It's also apparent that a bungee was used since the person in the mirror bounces back up about 2 feet.

When Mike see him hang himself in the mirror, the watch is on the right hand of his alter-self (the stunt double), whereas Mike wears his watch on his left hand throughout the movie.

This was not simply the result of seeing his image reversed in the mirror, his alter-self is actually perpendicular to him when he witnesses the hanging in the mirror.

When giving the "Skull Rating" of the first hotel he stays at, he initially gives it "six skulls".

He then says "screw 'em, five skulls", but his lips say "fuck 'em, five skulls".

- PLOTIf the room receives a "light turn" once every month, why are there bloodstains showing up on the sheets under the UV light? While Mike is reviewing the room for the first time, he puts down the bottle of cognac on the bedside table, opened.

When the radio starts and he looks back from the window, the cork has magically reappeared.

After Mike discovers the turned-down bed (and the neat toilet roll in the bathroom), he switches off the radio.

The cognac is perched right on the edge of the table.

When he tries figuring out where the maid might be, the cognac has suddenly moved back.

When Mike Enslin enters 1408, he flicks on the first two light switches nearest to him.

The camera cuts away and when it cuts back, only the middle switch is flicked down.

When Mike is walking into the lobby, the overview shot shows the woman with the baby buggy and an Asian lady sitting next to her.

As the shot comes to ground level, you see Mike walking past the lady with the baby buggy, but the Asian woman is not there.

The Dolphin Hotel is supposed to be at 2254 Lexington Avenue.

Later on in the movie it is mentioned to be at the intersection with 45th Street.

2254 Lex Ave, however, is near the intersection with 84th street.

When the sprinklers turn on and destroy Mike's laptop, he becomes frustrated and closes the screen completely.

As he moves toward the heating duct grate, the laptop is shown to be partially open, and it stays in this configuration until Mike talks to Lily when the room is frosted.

While driving from the first hotel, there is an outer shot of the jeep showing a small, 2 lane road, with trees right next to it.

In the next shot, there is an additional lane added to the right side of the road, a car and a truck appear from behind, and now the trees are a lot further from the road it's self.

When Mike settles into the first hotel room, he is careful to set his unlit cigarette in the ashtray so it is balanced, neither end touching anything.

When the shot cuts and pulls back, the cigarette is well-leaning into the ashtray.

When the room first becomes enclosed in the brick wall, the three main pictures are their alternate versions.

It isn't until later in the movie though that there is a specific sequence showing them change from their original to alternate forms.

Mike looks down the street several times.

At 00:38:49 and at 00:42:33 the same three cars are moving slowly on the road.

When Mike is clutching the brick wall, his nose presses into the "brick" and it gives way, revealing that it is fake.

His hands also cause the brick wall to rustle on multiple occasions.

Heavy machinery instead of talent - in the acting, in the writing, in a lot. A famous debunking author checks into a famously haunted hotel room #1408.

First things first i am a huge horror movies fan myself and i must have seen like hundreds of horror films.1408 is neither your typical ultra- gory-ridiculously over the top bloody-slapstick horror nor another wannabe subconsciously-existential-don't-know-what film.

Make no mistake, 1408 is a pretty typical Stephen King: Nightmarish, surreal, wicked.I've discussed this movie with some of my torture porn loving co-workers who obviously like gore, suffering and desperation.

It was interesting to see how horror would be depicted in a hotel room. It turned into physical violence by the ghosts that would have been terrorizing even if they were not done by any super natural entities.

If you are reading this review, then listen carefully to me.Do you want to watch a movie that will ACTUALLY make you feel afraid?

I damn well realize that this isn't my most popular personal opinion, but yours truly always thought that Stephen King is incredibly overrated and often even balancing on the edge of being a plagiarist. The fact that so many of his novels/stories got turned into fantastic classic movies – horror or otherwise – is mainly the accomplishment of all the gifted directors that helmed the adaptations (Brian DePalma, Stanley Kubrick, Frank Darabont, Rob Reiner…) rather than of King's own writing talents.

1408 is a movie that relies much more on old-school scares than what you see in most horror films these days. It's a movie that relies on deep psychological horror and building tension rather than cheap and unnecessary, ineffective jump scares.

I just rated this movie with 2 because of the beginning of the movie as I feel that it was a beginning of a good movie but I was disappointed. But I got more disappointed of this movie when I saw the rating and the reviews.
