Rather than use "What's Up with Love?" as the English translation to the title, I would have used "What is it about Love?
While everyone seems to be sick and tired of Hollywood teen flicks, Indonesia churns out one which is top-notch. I'm Malaysian, and Bahasa Indonesia is pretty different from Bahasa Malaysia although they're supposedly almost identical.
... even if it is a teen movie.
Hello all--for what it's worth, I'm in a doctoral program on Indonesian politics and returned this semester after about a year's fieldwork, most of it in Jakarta.I'm a big movie fan generally, so I went out as often as I could, and bought tons of local VCDs while I was there.
I have notice this film from a friend during Ramadhan visit. I'm asking friends what it's all about.
I just found that yes, IMDb does have a page on this film, and i'd like to comment on it, cos Indonesia truly owes much of the revival of its film industry to this gem... i don't need to summarize the plot, cos i'm pretty sure those who actually get to this page have watched the film themselves...
I enjoyed AAD2? and found it had the general stuff like most Hollywood teen flicks; friendship, teen angst, independence, love and comedy, like any shallow person I enjoyed the comedy/romance at the end between Cinta and her friends getting to the airport to get to Rangga before he left and then leaving without Mamet.
I knew this movie from the web site of Jakarta Shimbun, a newspaper for Japanese living in Indonesia. It was explained as a big hit that breaks long stagnation of Indonesian film industry.
I must admit that AADC is a movie in my guilty enjoyment list. The only reason why I watched it was because I liked its soundtracks that was on heavy airplay on MTV and couldn't help but catch glimpses of the curiosity-arousing scenes.
