"American Movie" is a one of a kind movie. It is proof of the statement "you can't make this stuff up".

Just saw this movie tonight for the first time and had the pleasure of having the Co-Director and producer Sarah Price there after the movie to talk to us about it. I personally loved the movie, the characters were so amazing and I never felt like they were being made fun of.

The passion we see here is inspiring, and some of my favorite moments were some of the black and white shots Mark Borchardt captured for his indie film effort, rather than the comedic moments of pathos. It seems he had a real eye for framing and aesthetics, and it's a shame he wasn't on a better path than partying and then the army.

American Movie is a delightfully humorous documentary about the making of a short film over a three year period. Mark Borchardt is our foolishly charming subject who struggles and struggles despite insurmountable odds.

After completing the film, I pondered about how many of those small films that few ever witness have troubled productions and or fascinating histories behind them we don't hear of. It lends credence to the idea of "there's a story everywhere.

This movie, about supremely untalented American film-maker Mark Borchardt and his attempts to make a short film in order to make a small amount of money which will launch him into fame and fortune as a film-maker, is riveting. As they say, fact is stranger than fiction.

Incidentally, it's tied at first with "Ghostbusters" and "It's a Wonderful Life." "Mike, why do you make movies?

This is one of the few non-well known films I saw before I got into film. Since I wasn't used to slow pacing at all, I struggled quite a bit and, before rewatching it for this thread, I hadn't thought much about it.

This film must deeply appeal to anyone with a dream that they gave up years ago, but still long after. The main character, Mark Borchardt, still chases his dream of making a feature cult movie after years of failed attempts and complete lack of a budge, and a life that is facing apart at the seams.
