West's rank devices change from Specialist during his welcome speech to the trainees, to Master Sergeant before the mission.

This change also happens at other random points in the film.

When Osborne is driving the Hummer during the rain, she moves her hands as though to take a bend, but the steering wheel stays in the same position.

When the doctor is in the jail cell waiting for transport, his lips do not match the words he's singing ("nobody ever had to scratch my back").

Just before Hardy and Osborne get out of the car to go and see Kendall in Hospital, Hardy removes his jacket and throws in to the back on the car.

Once inside the hospital, Hardy has his Jacket on again.

When they are chasing the plane in the rain, the Humvee makes the sound of a gas engine.

This particular truck has a turbo diesel engine.

At the beginning of the movie they are flying in an American Eurocopter EC120.

When they show a close-up they are in an American Eurocopter AS350 "A-Star".

Just after the introduction of Hardy and Osborne, as Hardy is walking towards the door saying, "That's one way to put it," his lips are not moving.

Ranger Training is conducted by the Ranger Training Brigade, who wear the Fort Benning TRADOC "Follow Me" patch.

West, their trainer, was wearing a patch from the 193rd Infantry Brigade.

Right before Kendall talks about being the victim of a hate-crime during his narration, strobes that generate the lightning flashes can be seen firing above in the trees as Castro is shooting at targets.

In the scene where Pike is climbing the cliff and Sgt West is challenging him to use his brain, there's a moderate, steady rain shower.

When Sgt West throws his pack down the cliff, there's no rain as his pack is shown falling.

Before following Hardy in her Hummer, Osborne is shown in the driver's seat wearing a jacket, which has disappeared once she sets the vehicle in motion.

Right after Kendall's death, Osborne shows Hardy the eight on her palm.

When her hand is in horizontal position, the eight is half gone.

When she shows him, the eight is clear.

In the scene where the soldiers are shooting at West on the roof of the shack, a squib can be seen going off late after the sound of the shooting has stopped.

Dunbar's note during the opening sequence has "-body" misspelled twice as "-boy".

Osborne opens Dunbar's note to read it, and then misreads "somebody" as "someone" and "anybody" as "anyone".

The movie claims that the Provost Marshal is "the closest thing we have to an investigator".

Not only was there a Criminal Investigation Divison field office in Panama at the time the movie was set in, the Provost Marshals office has it's own Military Police Investigations office.

Dunbar tells West that the muzzle velocity of his M16A2 is 700 meters per second.

The actual muzzle velocity of that weapon is 975 meters per second.

The bullet holes in the roof of the hut are as big as quarters, and so are possibly too large for the rifles' caliber of 5.

56mm Nato.

In certain scenes Sgt.

West wears a cape over his shoulder.

This is worn correctly, but the cape is only worn by commissioned officers.

As an NCO, he should not wear this uniform item.

During the first platoon inspection scene, Sergeant West is wearing Specialist rank on his uniform collar, four ranks lower than the Master Sergeant ranks he is wearing on the epaulets of his sweater.

When Sgt.

West comes into the bunker, he traps Mueller, fully dressed, against the support beam with the knife.

However, Mueller, without his shirt on, is also the first one he stabbed.

Mueller is simultaneously shown lying dead on the ground shirtless, and pushed down, wearing a shirt.

*SPOILERS*SPOILERS*SPOILERS*SPOILERS*SPOILERS"Basic" is certainly a well directed movie by John McTiernan ("Die hard " , "Predator" , "Hunt for Red October" , "Die hard 3") . It's also certainly well acted .

Short, pointed review. This is an engaging, if frequently, baffling thriller.

Sergeant West (Samuel L. Jackson) is ruthless with his soldiers, very experienced, powerful, dominator and is aware the fact that its slightly out of yarn.

When I first watched Basic a long time ago, I didn't like this movie, but after recently rewatching this a couple of times - I find this movie to be watchable, it has a confusing movie plot, films with a mystery element should not be too confusing like this. Still, the story line is different and the movie has me interested more than entertained.

This film is not exactly "Rashomon" of 1951.Samuel L.

I was with this movie for maybe two-thirds of it. I wasn't quite loving it, but I was going along with the twisting narrative and contradictory stories well enough.

This is a really good, classic, enjoyable movie. That's it.

It is a story of people in uniform conducting a military investigation on a military base. It is basically military.

I saw this movie back in 2004 and I liked it (or so I thought). After a few years I had the opportunity to watch it again.
