The movie depicts Holland 1944 and the ending of Second World when Rachel Stein once a singer, hiding in Holland after her family and friends killed in the carnage , she infiltrates the Gestapo, which is headed by Ludwig Muntze and she falls in love with him.It shows the tragedies and causalities of war beautifully.

This movie has everything!!! I was disappointed at the end because I didn't see Hitler fly into Paris on a Zeppelin balloon, jump on a bicycle and win the Tour de France, bribing the officials with stolen jewels from murdered Jews.

Paul Verhoeven co-wrote and directed this tremendous undertaking, Black Book (Zwartboek), a Dutch film from 2006. This is a big, sprawling film about World War II and the travails of a Jewish woman, Rachel Stein.

One of the first "Foreign" films I ever saw was Verhoven's "Spetters" - And he is back now to his roots. With this movie it was as if 15 to 20 years of Verhoven's Big Hollywood movies never happened.

I wanted to see this movie, so I was happy when I saw it would be broadcast yesterday. But now I've seen it, I must say that it turned out to be a disappointment.

The black book of the title did not feature until the end, and although it was a important part of the plot did not affect the film much. Its very well made though, and although throws up a few surprises, some you probably worked out quite early, it is not that thrilling, but a bit dramatic, what makes this film good id its realism and style of the period and situation, but I think more could of been made of it.

What worked: it's a based on true events and the story works well as the narrativethe ambiance and mood of the movie is real and it's strong enough to keep us glued for the run time of the moviepost war events and what it looked like once Germans were defeated gives us a perspective of the new phaseWhat didn't work: -the movie could have been little shorter, in my opinion or maybe it wasn't necessary. I didn't find anything to complain about.

This is an above average movie depicting a beautiful Jewish singer in WWII Netherlands whose family is killed by the Nazis in front of her own eyes. She joins an anti-Nazi resistance group & thus begins a tale with many twists & turns.

Although the main plot could be a bit better developed and a few scenes come across as rather underwhelming, 'Black Book' is on the whole an interesting and visually arresting WWII thriller. Featuring good performances from all cast members, the film successfully blends violence, sex and moral relativism, which results in well-conceived and surprising plot twists, satisfying action sequences and well-built tension.
