When Johnny substitutes for King at the last minute, the costume fits the much smaller Johnny perfectly.

With that quote Sinatra summed Broadway Melody of 1940 up perfectly. The 30s, 40s and 50s were especially timeless for musicals, and in the past twenty years or so(though this may seem unfair) we haven't seen stars in the same ilke as the likes of Fred and Ginger, Eleanor Powell, Cyd Charise, Judy Garland and Gene Kelly to name a few.

The last in a series of Broadway Melody films finds our lovable hoofster Fred Astaire as a struggling dancer (shocking!) trying to make it in the big bad city.

The dancing was terrific. They were all so professional to make every dance throughout the film as simply done as with every film professional dancers (Hoofers) were in.

A film from Hollywood when it was indeed the world's dream factory. Seventy years old...

Great MGM musical starring Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell. Astaire plays Johnny Brett, who's part of a dancing team with King Shaw (future U.

So many of the reviews imply that Fred's most famous partner, Ginger Rogers, was overrated when compared to Eleanor Powell. I strongly disagree with this contention, at least in regard to this movie.

....and I mainly mean the dance numbers, not the plot.

Eleanor Powell stars opposite Fred Astaire, with an acclaimed musical score by Cole Porter. They dance to "Begin the Beguine," which is considered by many to be one of the greatest tap sequences in film history.

OK, much has been said about this movie's wooden acting. Those that at that are right.
