Years before 'Ghost World', Terry Zwigoff first made a name for himself with this documentary about Robert Crumb, author of 'Fritz the Cat' and other raunchy comic strips. The film strikes a nice balance between interviews and montages of Crumb's work a lot of time is spent on the camera gliding over the inventive images that Crumb generated over the years.

I did not know for some time what this film listed in the book 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die was about, so I was very interested when I found out it was a documentary about a famous comic book cartoonist who I had heard about. Robert Crumb is the cartoonist and artist who drew and created popular comics and images such as Fritz the Cat, Mr.

I will not add to the many fine reviews of this film which you, dear reader, will find contained herein. No, for my poor power of pen could not justice to this, arguably one of the finest documentary films ever commited to celluloid.

In the 'slap-in-your-face' category, the winner is Terry Zwigoff's "Crumb", a dispassionate yet humanly intense documentary about cult-cartoonist and counterculture icon Robert Crumb. I confess I didn't know Crumb much but I was raised by comics from the French- Belgian school, and my idols were influenced by "Mad" magazine.

Crumb is documentary about the famous and controversial cartoonist Robert Crumb. The film was directed by Terry Zwigoff.

I was not aware of the name - but I was aware of his work to a degree. I reckon even if we haven't seen the original drawings, we have seen the style of Crumb.

It is a shockingly honest representation of brilliant minds disconnected from society and the rest of the world. The way Crumb and his brothers use art as a form of therapy is fascinating as it is disturbing and amazing.

I felt uncomfortable watching Crumb. I felt uncomfortable as I looked for a picture of Crumb to include in this review.

Not so much about the comics of R. Crumb, so much as the very, very, personal life of the man.
