This is probably in the top five of the best horror films of the 1950's, and indeed perhaps the best, because the decade concentrated on more science fiction related fantasy than actual horror outside what Hammer began to produce late in the decade and some American efforts with Lugosi, Karloff and Price. Outside of "House of Wax" and a few of the Hammer films, it is difficult to think of one where the horrors were not overtaken by camp.

Every time I see this film it still gives me the eeby jeebies. Very atmospheric and eerie.

This is a superbly done combination of horror and suspense featuring top-notch actors, engaging dialog and excellent atmosphere. My only criticisms are that the demon appeared too early in the film and by modern standards is not very compelling as an object to frighten or terrify.

One of the finest horror and creepier movies made in England during the 50s and remains immensely gripping . The film begins with Professor Harrington (Maurice Denham) venturing through the night to Lufford Hall, the luxurious residence of Dr.

*Spoiler/plot- Curse of the Demon, 1957. An American psychologist colleague is mysteriously and brutally murdered.

Dana Andrews is a shrink from America who goes to England for a conference. There he runs into Julian Karswell who turns out to have deciphered an ancient text about demons.

Classic B movie fare, but really entertaining. It's tense, well-acted and the leads have a chemistry.

I like the horror genre, but I'm very fussy about it. Old-fashioned horror films are my favorites, but abhor modern slash movies.
