Earpiece visible in Mitch's ear while singing the "Piggy-nose" song which then disappears.

When Marie is making pancakes, she picks up the syrup to pour on Dan's pancakes with her left hand and starts to pour, then in the next shot she is pouring with her right hand.

The cop takes Dan's driver's license after his accident and then later Dan says he can no longer drive because he doesn't have a license.

Although the police can take your license in lieu of a cash bond, they can not take away your driving privileges.

You can still drive while waiting for your court date by using the ticket as your driver's identification.

Typically only your state's DMV or a judge can revoke your driving privileges.

In the scene where Dan is talking to Cindy and Jim, the father and daughter that are going to syndicate his column, you can see Mitch's chair next to Dan move close so that Mitch's leg is touching Dan's and further away, then close, then far again to Dan's chair.

When Dan drives his car, you can hear a diesel engine and when he starts it back up you hear a gas engine crank.

Dan's car, a Mercedes 300 turbo diesel, is shown filling up at an unleaded gas pump.

During the end credits when everyone is dancing in a circle, Marie's strap on her dress is falling down on her arm, then it cuts to a different angle and the strap is magically back up on her shoulder.

At the dinner table, when the topic of forgiving pasts comes up, the boom mic falls into the shot.

'John Mahoney (I)' (qv) even breaks character to look up at it.

When Dan is searching for a knife to cut the pie, the first time we see it, the pie is tall.

When the camera cuts back to the pie, it is shorter.

At the end of the movie the family is seen driving back from New England to New York City.

Their car travels west over the Queensboro Bridge from Queens into Manhattan.

It makes very little sense to ever enter Queens when coming from New England if traveling into Manhattan.

The Triboro Bridge (now called the 'Robert F.

Kennedy' (qv) Bridge) which takes you from the Bronx to Queens can also take you to Manhattan.

Entering Queens would make the trip longer and cause you to pay an extra toll.

When Mitch and Dan and the rest of the family are sitting and talking with the reporters, Mitch and Dan's chairs go from touching to not touching to touching again, all throughout the scene.

Dan's guitar playing is not even attempted to be correct.

His fingers just ramble over the fret board and no chords are close to be played.

When Ruthie drops off everyone after the double date.

The Mustang she drives has a V8 growl, but is actually a V6.

Dan stops for gas in New Jersey while he and the girls are driving up to the family's house.

He is shown pumping gas.

While it is against the law in New Jersey to pump your own gas, it is sometimes done and usually overlooked as an infraction by station staff.

Dan Burns (Steve Carell) is a lonely widow who writes an advice columnist. He is overprotective and over his head especially with boy crazy Cara (Britt Robertson).

Good movie but man some of the scenes were so cringe.

Dan in Real Life is a great movie with a very well written storyline that has a very good mix of very dramatic and depressing scenes,as well as plenty of very funny scenes. Judging from the films poster,I thought this was going to be a very goofy comedy, but it was actually a very mature and grown up movie on one of those family situations where you know no one is going to come out victorious.

'Dan in Real Life' is a decent entertainer. A good watch.

The 7 rating on here is misleading. It does make me wonder about the stream of 10 stars and if they are genuine or written by people with a commercial interest.

I enjoyed the movie for the most part, although I kept thinking to myself: "Good god, there isn't a family out there who is this nauseatingly cute." Even the dysfunctional aspects of the family were portrayed such that it was a slice of Norman Rockwell.

I never heard of this movie until my cousin introduced it to me. Since I never heard of it until she told me about it, I thought it would be one of those cheap, low-budget movies that had a cheesy romance plot with a predictable ending.

Some people may find Peter Hedge's Dan in Real Life to be gross and overly sentimental. But I found this movie to be really sweet with one exception and a film that has a big heart beating in the middle of it.

Rarely does a film feel as human and believable as "Dan in Real Life" does, but for all the ways that you can relate to this film and its characters, it goes from something "real" to something that is in fact preposterous and all too convenient where thematic epiphany is concerned. To start, "Dan in Real Life" starts out as a film about a widower (Carell) who is having issues raising his three daughters.
