There is a three prong electrical outlet visible in the Wershbas' bathroom.

It was not in common use until decades later.

It was originally thought by many viewers that the "CBS News" sign on the wall is set in Helvetica, a typeface which was first created in 1957, three years after the 'Joseph McCarthy (II)' (qv) broadcast.

Subsequent investigation by typographers established that the typeface is actually correct and is Akzidenz Grotesk.

In several of the scenes with telephone conversations the phones being used were models not introduced until years later and at least twice the handsets use the detachable cord with the RJ-11 plug which was introduced by Bell in the 1970s.

Mention is made of the hotline telephone between Moscow and Washington, but this was installed in 1963, five years after Murrow's speech and ten years after the bulk of the film.

('Fidel Castro (I)' (qv)'s revolution hadn't even occurred at the time the film is set).

There is a plastic water bottle on the desk in the newsroom when Friendly, Wershba, and Murrow are standing around and talking.

The piano shown behind jazz singer 'Dianne Reeves (I)' (qv) displays the "Steinway" logo on the side - it would not have been displayed on the side of models at that time.

Murrow's cigarette grows longer (while the ash gets shorter) during the meeting where Paley reschedules his show to Sundays.

In the middle of the film, when Wershba is with his wife in their house getting ready for work, he forgets his wedding ring and his wife has to remind him to take it, the top button of his shirt becomes buttoned and his tie is tied tighter by itself as he turns around to get his wedding ring.

There wasn't enough time for him to button his shirt and tighten his tie.

The U.

Air Force officers are shown wearing modern, brushed metal name tags.

Air Force personnel did not wear name tags until the blue plastic ones were introduced in 1967.

Also officers are not authorized silver chin straps on the service hat - only plain leather ones (even in 1954).

These are used for ceremonial duties only.

Murrow is shown giving his famous speech at the RNTDA Convention.

The screen to his left shows the date as 25 October 1958 whereas the actual date of the speech was 15 October 1958.

Bill Paley says to Murrow"I'm taking your program from a half an hour to an hour.

" In fact, the program went from an hour to a half hour.

During Murrow's speech at the RNTDA Convention - the scene that bookends the film - the screen to his left reads"A Salute to Edward R.

Murrow - October 25, 1958".

The script font used on the screen is Ballantines; this typeface was only designed 16 years later in 1974 (by Brendel Typestudio).

In the opening sequence two shots show a twin-lens reflex camera being handed about.

A moment later, a group photo is taken, presumably with the same camera) and a flash frame indicates the camera had a flash, but it didn't.

When the CBS staff is watching "See It Now" on a regular TV set, the set is tuned to Channel 10.

If they were watching television in New York, the set should have been tuned to Channel 2.

McCarthy's influence was already waning when Murrow's show about him aired due to years of investigative reporting by other journalists, such as Drew Pearson.

Murrow himself said in Newsweek magazine, "It's a sad state of affairs when people think I was courageous" in presenting his show.

Shirley Wershba was pregnant during the March 9th, 1954 broadcasting of the McCarthy episode, but Patricia Clarkson is definitely not pregnant in the movie.

The effect of black and white is done quite well. As an actor transition director, George Clooney has been quite successful.

At the present times, when the film and film-making in general has undergone such a drastic change that more often than not, a major portion of the viewers is accustomed to a film with either action, a lot of humor, exceptional chills, over-the-top stories, and so on and so forth. The very root of film-making seems to have been forgotten.

Like many others I have watched this film multiple times: a lot of multiple times.I can't fault a single thing about this picture.

This is an important subject from a historical perspective. The "red scare" era, where everyone and anyone could be suspected of being a communist simply on the basis of rumours or hearsay, and where lives and careers were ruined because of the sometimes questionable connections that were established, and which gave rise to the otherwise obscure and undistinguished Senator Joseph McCarthy, is a fascinating one.

Lately I frequently watch movies directed by actors. It began with "Braveheart" (1995, Mel Gibson), then "Dances with wolves" (1990, Kevin Costner) and now "Good night, and Good luck" (2005, George Clooney).

I have always liked the political drama, though not an American but still political drama helps me understand America's politics a bit better. The 1954 confrontation between Edward R.

Good Night, and Good Luck starts with a framed narrative in the form of an acceptance speech from Murrow years on, for an award for his services in media. Why place this speech here and at the close of the film, bookending his most infamous moments in the spotlight?

George Clooney is the person behind this,he is a liberal and his father was a journalist and this film is proof of these facts. I don't mean that Mr Clooney shouldn't have made this film but the message might have been better received if sent from a more neutral source.
