When Linda Stiles is introduced for the first time and is speaking about Sutter Cain's book, she takes her glasses off and folds them twice.

In the scene where Sutter Cane peels himself away to reveal the abyss, although most of his upper half is no longer "in reality" his shadow on the wall behind him remains perfectly intact.

In the scene with the axe-wielding madman who is shot several times by police men, no visible bullet marks are made by the gunfire.

In the beginning of the film when Kanes editor is shot, a total 8 shots are fired from a standard six-shooter revolver.

The stories of H.P.

I'm a casual fan of John Carpenter ("The Thing (1982)", "Halloween (1978)") I've seen his bigger films, and some of his smaller ones, and for the most part, they vibe with me. "The Thing" is absolutely fantastic, and while I think "Halloween" is a bit overrated, it's still decent.

This may be my favorite Carpenter movie besides Halloween of course. His Lovecraftian, Stephen King inspired tale of monsters and madness is terrifying and trippy.

In the Mouth of Madness starts in New York where freelance insurance investigator John Trent (Sam Neill) is hired by an insurance firm to check the claim of Arcane Publishing who say that their best-selling horror author Sutter Cane (Jürgen Prochnow) has disappeared & is believed to be dead. The insurance firm feel it may all be a publicity scam & send Trent in to uncover the truth either way, after reading Cane's first five novels Trent becomes convinced that it's a con & after some inspired detective work feels he has the answer.

John Carpenter directed this mind-bending horror tale about Insurance investigator John Trent(Sam Neill, quite good) who is sent to locate a missing horror novelist Sutter Cane(Jurgen Prochnow) who is known to reside in the isolated East Coast town called Hobb's End, where Trent discovers a bizarre group of locals, and strange occurrences that eventually do lead him to Sutter Cane, who believes he can manipulate reality, and intends to unleash ancient monsters onto the world, and vanquishing humanity. Trent tries to stop him, but doesn't quite comprehend the awful truth until the film comes out...

Unexpectedly decent John Carpenter film. I really liked Sam Neill's performance.

This is a great movie. I like Sam Neil playing as the character John Trent.

This is definitely not something you should watch if you're expecting a simple narrative, it is meta, it is confusing, it'll make you paranoid...and I think it's pretty brilliant.

In The Mouth Of Madness is a very cerebral and very intense horror film from one of the genre's greats, John Carpenter. Sam Neil is John Trent, a private detective that is on a special job.
