After Old Yeller catches the catfish and Travis scolds him and Arliss for being in the drinking water, the next scene shows Old Yeller lying on his side perfectly clean and dry.

When old Rose has her calf and attacks Travis someone just off screen throws the dog on top of the cow.

The movie is set in 1869.

However, Travis' gun has a model 1873 Springfield Trapdoor receiver.

This rifle fires a cartridge so Travis has no need for the powder horn around his neck.

I know that many people have a soft place in their heart for "Old Yeller". In fact, the country group Confederate Railroad even sang a song where they lament that they should have KNOWN a woman was no good because 'she didn't cry when Old Yeller died'...

Texas teenager Tommy Kirk (as Travis Coates) is directed to assume the role "man of the house" when his father leaves on a three-to-four hour cattle round-up. Young Kirk is to watch over the ranch, with mother Dorothy McGuire (as Katie), and little brother Kevin Corcoran (as Arliss).

He must look after his mother Katie(played by Dorothy McGuire) and younger brother Arliss(played by Kevin Corcoran).

A cute film regarding 'Old Yeller' the dog.With that said, I can't say the film does anything to endear the kids to me, they come across as extremely unlikable - mainly due to the dialogue.

Amazing movie on every level. It's fun, adventurous, awful sad, and the dog is incredible.

This is a somewhat nice and heartwarming story about Travis Coates (Tommy Kirk) left to take care of the family ranch with his mother Katie (Dorothy McGuire) and younger brother Arliss (Kevin Corcoran). Later, a a stray dog randomly visits the ranch and Travis reluctantly adopts it, but grows to love the dog (which he named Old Yeller) as it developed a profound effect on Travis' life.

"Old Yeller" is a beautiful movie. It's easy to connect with the story and with the characters.

Sure, it´s a great old family movie... But like Swiss Family Robinsons, it is also full of animal cruelty !
