I went into One-Eyed Jacks with minimal knowledge of the film except it was directed by Marlon Brando and, as such, probably had a troubled production history. Boy was I right!

Standard revenge oater with a double-crossed Rio (Marlon Brando) hunting down his betrayer Dad Longworth (Karl Malden), who has now gone straight and is the sheriff of Monterey. The story is formulaic but the script and acting are fine and there are some good action scenes and nice desert and coastal scenery.

The music from Hugo Friedhofer starts off this film with western splendid imagery together with romance and sadness, I never forget the girl Pina Pellicer who was in love with Brando, you could see it in her face and hear it in her voice. But he moved on and regrettably she didn't...

This is the only film that Marlon Brando directed. It's easy to understand why no producers would let him get near a camera afterward.

Just saw the remastered version - Scorcese/Spielberg involved and it was a revelation. Cinematography was awe inspiring and the acting was intense.

This movie has it all and then some. One-Eyed Jacks will trick you in a lot of ways as it will come off as a one dimensional western revenge story(which wouldn't have been a bad thing at all) but as the layers keep getting peeled away as the movie progresses, the viewer will find out that there is much more to this movie than meets the eye.

It's 1880 in Sonara, Mexico. Rio (Marlon Brando) is a bank robber on the run from the authorities.

This is not great but it has great moments and a very unusual feel to it. Peckinpah and Kubrick had apparently been slated as director before the project was taken over by Brando and it seems unlikely that neither of the other directors would have had such a sentimental section in the middle.

I came in on this movie just before the whipping seen. I recognized many cast members so I kept watching.
