Susan and Daniel's snorkels change from the left side to the right side of their heads and back several times (divers always wear them on the left).

During the movie the tank caps change color, most of the time they are red but sometimes one is green or black.

The length of Daniel's sideburns varies throughout the movie.

Specially between the hotel room's scenes and the water shots.

When Daniel and Susan are lying on the beach, and Daniel gets up to go for a swim, 'Chris Kentis' (qv) is reflected in Susan's sunglasses.

All four of Susan's hose protectors, where the hoses attach to the first stage, start off being yellow.

Towards the end of the film two are either missing or change color.

Susan's octopus (the yellow spare regulator) goes from being unattached to her BCD to attached and back again throughout the film.

In the beginning of the film despite going to bed without any clothes Daniel miraculously (and thankfully) gains a pair of briefs for the middle of the night mosquito swatting scene, before waking the next morning.

Presumably this an effort by the director to keep the film rating as low as possible.

But why not make him go to sleep with a pair of briefs on in the first place? When Daniel and Susan first submerge, they are still talking to each other despite having regulators in their mouths.

When Susan asks, "Where's the boat?", they are in the shadow of the camera boat.

After both have been in the water for quite a while they drop their weight belts to make them more buoyant.

At the end of the movie and after Daniel dies, Susan drops her tanks and submerges.

That is impossible to do consider she is wearing some sort of suit which gives additional buoyancy.

That is why they are wearing weight belts in the first place - to offset that additional flotation in their suits.

At the end when a search is started.

The sea plane taking off has turboprop engines(Turbine Engine with propellers).

The sound is of piston engines.

Sometimes, horror is best when you keep things quiet, simple and believable. No chainsaw- wielding maniacs, no killer dolls or rabid dogs, no comely vampires with nasty, pointy teeth.

He got left behind on a ship. His own yacht.

Well, I guess I understand why many people hate it so bad. They probably expected it to be a shark horror movie like "Jaws" or the others of it's genre.

I have seen some people making uneducated comments on this film, that this movie is boring it's just one scene it's not this or that.First of all your missing the point this is not about what you can see it's about that which you don't see, and the sheer emotional distress and harrowing ordeal the two individuals go through.

100% spoiler-free.71% on RT.

In recent memory, Open Water was the only movie that scared me a whole lot. The scariest part was not the thought of being stranded in the water with sharks, and being completely isolated, but the fact that stuff like this has happened before.

This is the second worst movie ever, right behind its successor "Open Water 2". There isn't much more to tell about it, as absolutely nothing is happening during the whole movie: Water, people in it and the only stretching point is, who will die first: The people inside the water by drowning or the viewer from boredom.

This movie was very boring, it lacked tension, it lacked sharks and its too predictable. I was very bored, there is nothing this movie has to keep your attention, In a good shark film like jaws (which is apparently the only good shark movie) Jaws was a tense, gripping, engrossing movie that had you on the edge of your seat through the whole film, the direction on jaws was great too, but here, there's little character development or good dialouge.

Overall the movie is boring but for someone who is afraid of swimming in the ocean , this is one of the scariest movies i've seen because it's shot in a way that feels very real.I have a hard time rating this movie since it does what it set out to do so well but at the end of the day it's a movie about 2 people floating in open water for about 2 days.
