Despite the movie supposedly taking place in the Maine woods, foliage and landmarks clearly show the area of the forests of British Columbia, where the movie was actually filmed.

- PLOTIn the opening sequence, the dog can be seen to be hanging over 40 feet above the ground.

Yet the bear (unseen) manages to pluck it down, despite clearly being too short in later scenes.

Obvious dummy dog falling over cliff in opening sequence.

Obvious dummy for M'Rai when he is killed and thrown by the bear.

Clear use of wires when Hawk is thrown by bear.

Obviously stuffed bear to represent dead monster-bear floating in the lake.

Generally, and especially when giving chase, bears do not run on their hind legs.

Verne and his wife fly from Washington D.

to Maine, but when they pass over a lighthouse on the coast the plane is clearly traveling south.

When Maggie Verne is seen leaving the helicopter during the rain storm there is a wire visible holding her handkerchief in place so it doesn't get lost in in the winds when she purposely lets it fall out of her pocket In the scene where the weather is storming, the wind is blowing sheets of rain one way, yet the waves on the lake in the background are blowing in the opposite direction.

Robert Foxworth plays biologist Dr. Robert Verne, who, along with his wife(Talia Shire) flies to the remote wilderness of Maine to investigate claims by the local Native American tribe(led by Armand Assante) that a paper factory is poisoning the environment, resulting in polluted waters and deformed children.

This film had the potential to be a rare echo-horror that actually tackled the subject of men tempering with nature. It was apparently inspired by a real environmental disaster in Japan and since it was directed by John Frankenheimmer, I was genuinely intrigued to check out this film that I had been dismissing for so long mainly because of the infamous exploding sleeping bag scene.

Saw this film at the age of five & it still holds it own now, this underrated cult classic is a must have for a true Horror film collector.

Saddles somewhere between Snowbeast (1977) with Clint Walker and Intruder Within (1981) with Chad Everett came this offering, tho those were TV movies and this one was in the theatres. Nevertheless, they were all movies in which half the film was over before something happened, then you were lucky if you got a good view of the monster (before anyone saw the zipper on the rubber costume, of course).

Frankenheimer's unofficial sequel to The Shining begins with a lumber company's incursion into native american territory. This has unleashed a dark force in the form of the "kitadin"- a fierce and insatiable beast, said to be like a yeti but larger than a dragon and with the eyes of a cat...

"Prophecy" was released at the same general time as the popular "Alien" back in 1979. "Alien" was a fair hit at the box office (with a far better monster) while "Prophecy" didn't do very well, causing director John Frankenheimer to plummet into a depression.

The idealistic Dr. Robert Verner (Robert Foxworth) is invited by his friend Vic to travel to the Maine with his wife Maggie (Talia Shire) working for the Environmental Protection Agency to prepare a report about the dispute between Indians "Opies" (meaning the original people) and the lumberjacks.

Half man, half bear, half pig. Al Gore was right, he's super serial.

People in the Maine wilderness must fight a giant, mutant bear that's the result of toxic waste from the logging industry. One would figure that this movie would have been more entertaining for a B movie fan such as myself, unfortunately it wasn't.
