At one point when the soldiers are in search of the rest of Ives' party, one of them kicks a patch of snow which folds over showing it to clearly be a piece of white cloth.

The orientation of the knife changes between Colonel Hart slamming it into the table and Captain Boyd using it.

While Captain Boyd was lying in the hole after falling from the cliff the phases of the moon were shown to illustrate the passing of time.

It was clearly a waxing moon on the northern hemisphere (The "arc" was on the right side).

But the moon was becoming thinner in time just like a waning moon.

The surname of German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche is misspelled at the beginning of the film as "Nietzche".

In the final fight scene with Boyd and Ives, Ive's hand holding the knife cuts from being under Boyd's arm to being above Boyd's arm and back again.

Ives says "I reached Denver that spring.

" (presumably in 1847), but Denver wasn't founded until 1858.

When the men discover the cave you can see a few tree stumps in that are that were sawed off flat.

Since they are days away from civilization it would have been impossible for someone to have come and harvested timber from that part of the wilderness in that time period.

When Boyd and Reich enter the cave, Ives remains outside with hands tied.

But, mysteriously, when the movie cuts back to Ives his hands are free and he is gesturing madly.

The next time the movie cuts back to Ives he's holding a big knife in his hands, he could have dug up the knife from the dirt and used it to free his hands, although the rope is not on the ground by the hole.

The sprung trap clearly wobbles when supposedly crushing its victims in a way no real trap would.

While other "horror" movies, and I say "horror" because what that usually means some gore, and a bunch of killing are meant to scare you, this movie is a true horror because it will scare you... The gore in the film didn't scare me, nor the killing, it was the fact that the movie is so believable, even though to many the story of some cannibals etc.

The first time I watched this movie I remember getting dizzy. I felt like I was going to pass out.

Guy Pearce does a wonderful job, I really enjoyed the inclusion of the wendigo mythology. Definitely worth the cost of admission.

The main subject of that film is not based on real facts. Eating other people doesn't make us any stronger or healthier in real life.

Antonia Bird directs this 1999 western-adventure-comedy-horror film which has a runtime of 101 minutes and was rated 18 on its UK release due to themes of cannibalism in it. Writer Ted Griffin takes inspiration from the Donner Party and Alfred Packer, two real-life accounts of cannibalism that occurred in 1800's America.

Extremely Underrated and under watched hardly anyone knows about this gem !! If you have a chance to watch it dont pass it up.

Bored one night a long time ago I must admit I did not know what I was in for.At the end after both gagging & gut laughing I can say this film delivers on three things I like:: Horror, Comedy, and food.

I remember way back in the day when I was just barely a teenager and this movie was being advertised. It looked like a comedy with half the trailer dedicated to David Arquette's character laughing and some of the more quippy one-liners.
