I actually genuinely liked this documentary, mostly because films and conspiracy theories fascinate me on individual levels, so you can only imagine the fascination when both are combined. i like the idea that Kubrick wanted to use the vehicle to say something about the human race and our past proclivity towards genocidal activity because, as a writer myself (although, of course, not nearly as good as Kubrick), i certainly believe in placing messages and certain "darker truths" in media designed for "pure enjoyment", like a horror movie, for example.

I, like Stephen King (reportedly), gave up on this piece of complete garbage about halfway through. The makers of this film take completely innocuous images, and, with their paranoia or complete idiocy, try to mold them into some kind of 'message'.

Having watched The Shining recently, this popped up as a recommendation on #PrimeVideo. Reviewer quotes like "Mind-blowing" and "Phenomenal" suggested this was going to be something special.

Other hidden meanings in "The Shining": 1. In the gin commercial, the ice cube to the right clearly shows the Secret Service man driving JFK's limo in Dallas turning around and shooting the president.

"Room 237" is a subjective documentary that gives voice, and only voice, to five fanatical obsessives who have developed numerous theories based on sensational clues in the subliminally glimpsed details within Stanley Kubrick's classic "The Shining." There are five very different points of view illuminated, and first time director Rodney Ascher utilizes voice over, film clips, animation, and dramatic reenactments.

Room 237Every ghost in a haunted hotel room can likely be traced back to one of the stains on the bed-sheet.Fortunately, the mountain resort discussed in this documentary is unoccupied, save for a family of three.

I was really excited to see this documentary. I had always been sure that The Shining had to have some hidden message(s).

I think, at least for many of the reviews posted here, that this movie is being misunderstood. Mostly, the negative reviews focus on deconstructing the theories that this movie puts forth, which totally misses the point.

This so called documentary is so poorly made, you have one commentator stop and comment about his child making noise in the background and excuses himself to go and stop it, as if it's a 'youtube' made at home commentary. Then you have another commentator say "ok now what was I saying" as if there are no retakes possible to the audio commentary.
