I have been a Stephen King fan all of my life, and rank "Salem's Lot" and "The Stand" as his two essential, indispensible works. I read Salem's Lot at the ripe age of 8 (over three decades ago) and even after becoming an e-book lover still keep a paperback copy on the shelf so I can appreciate it in all of its yellowing-paged-original-glory.

This is not a bad movie at all, and proves once more that it takes a lengthy movie (or miniseries if you like) sometimes to depict properly of Stephen King's novel. This is the case on this movie, where all those sub-stories of different characters are more or less properly developed as well as decent acting and proper directing makes this Stephen King novel based movie a definitely watchable.

Tobe Hooper does a surprisingly fine job directing this effective adaptation of Stephen King's superb novel. David Soul plays novelist Ben Mears, who returns to his small New England hometown to do research on a book about the sinister Marsten House, which has long been reputed to be haunted, and where murder suicides did take place.

I really enjoyed this movie its different from the original but i still enjoyed it Tis no masterpiece but i hold it dear in my movie collection.

In the late 1970's and early 1980's Stephen King was everywhere. His books were churned out like so much burger meat, and these were being very quickly greenlit for both film and television.

I haven't read the Stephen's King book or seen the 1979 Tobe Hooper's TV movie. From what I see this movie (or mini-series) is rather loosely adapted from the book.

How did this pathetic remake rope in such renowned actors? It's dreadful.

I saw this for the first time recently aft revisiting the 1979 classic n its bad sequel. Saw the 174 mins version.

Here is a vampire film, originally a made for TV two episode release, but it hold strong as a 3 hour film. Maybe saying it wholes strong is a bit much but it is a respectable vampire film.
