As Officer Paski walks back to her cruiser, her ballpoint pen shifts from being clipped on the outside of her shirt pocket to being fully inside.

Uncle Merrill disappears from the end of the table when Morgan is talking to the sheriff.

Graham asks Bo to turn up the volume on the TV, she reaches forward and the volume increases before she makes contact with the button.

Also, she then holds her finger on the button but the volume does not continue to increase, instead, it remains constant.

They nail boards on the outside of inward-opening doors.

Obviously this isn't going to prevent the doors from being opened, but anything is better than nothing and they're panicking anyway.

Moreover, when Merrill asks Graham how they will know if boarding the windows will work, Graham replies, "Because they seem to have trouble with pantry doors".

Graham is implying that if the aliens have trouble with pantry doors, boarding them can only help.

Doing so also may give everyone, especially the children, a sense of hope and/or security.

Crew members, one possibly holding a boom mic, are reflected in the lights of Caroline's police car when she is talking to Graham after they have seen the crop circles on TV for the first time.

The family television has no problems picking up a clear TV signal, even though the antenna cable isn't plugged in.

The man on the poster in the U.

Army recruiting office is wearing a U.

Marine Corps uniform.

When Graham is at Reddy's house, Reddy speeds away in his truck the camera is reflected in the window.

The basement door is green in every shot except the very last one when Merrill is opening the door to go up and check for the "all clear" - it is a close-up of the handle and the door is painted brown.

As Graham takes Bo inside, after Houdini has died, they meet Merrill on the way into the house.

As Bo mutters "Houdini's sick", the shadow of a boom mic can be seen traveling across Merrill's shirt and face.

When Graham comes to the children after Morgan had to kill their dog, Bo is sitting with her knees up to her face.

In this shot her shoes are perfectly tied.

Once it changes to Graham and Morgan looking down at the dead dog and Morgan leaves, Graham goes over to Bo.

Her right shoe lace is untied.

When Graham looks out the window at the large flock of birds, the corn stalks are brown.

This is in contrast to all of the other shots, were the corn is green.

At the beginning of the film, the camera looks to the backyard and it is dark out.

When the men run outside, it is midday, and there is a shadow on the front of the house.

In the start of the movie it says that they are 45 miles outside of Philadelphia.

In reality they are no more than 10 miles from the Philadelphia border.

When they drive into town, we are shown an aerial view of East Lancaster Avenue and the Oxford Presbyterian Church in Oxford, PA (near Maryland), when the area the movie is supposed to take place in is Newtown, PA (near Trenton, NJ).

The pizza place they eat at when the go to "town" in reality does not actually serve pizza but makes take home pizza kits that you cook yourself.

However, the store is fictionalized so that it does serve pizza for the movie.

Aliens are supposedly afraid of or damaged by water, yet they can also run naked through the best way for a body to become soakeda Pennsylvania cornfield at night.

It would be highly, highly unlikely (if not unheard of) that there would be no dew on the corn at night.

In the scene where everyone is at the table not eating their dinner, the spaghetti on Bo's plate changes when the camera cuts to her.

At the end of the movie when the Uncle is swinging the bat, the bat breaks.

It shows the break being a somewhat clean break in the middle of the bat.

Baseball bats do not break that way since they are made with the grain of the wood.

This causes them to splinter when they break, and they break at the weakest part of the bat - the handle.

When the Hess family goes into town, most of the trees in town have changed into their fall colors.

Indeed, some leaves are brown, and there are dead leaves in the street.

Yet, most of the trees around the farmhouse, especially those surrounding the corn field are dark green.

The aliens are harmed by water, and yet they invade, naked, a planet that has water covering over 70% of its surface and where water frequently falls from the sky in the form of rain.

When Graham drops the knife in Ray Reddy's house (when the alien lunges at him) the hand that fumbles for the knife wears a skin tight, dark colored sleeve.

Graham's jacket in the scene is baggy-sleeved and light colored.

The news anchor, when discussing the lights over Mexico, pauses long enough for Bo and Morgan to fight over his taping over her video.

The voice returns once Morgan pops in the tape.

The Army recruiter's uniform ribbons are in an incorrect order.

...why this film got so many bad reviews.

I'm not a big fan of Shylaman's (Sixth Sense) stuff although I do tend to enjoy it somewhat the awful Unbreakable, happening and after earth aside. The movie is a edge of your seat suspenser in glorious Hitchcock style about a little family at the cusp of a full scale alien invasion.

A species can traverse interstellar space, but can't tell that the planet they're about to land on is acid to them? We don't go to Venus because we can tell that from looking at the spectrum of it's atmosphere.

I don't know why this movie is underrated.because this is really a great example of well written movie.

**********SPOILERS BELOW********It's true that the movie doesn't necessarily respect the viewers mind. Sophisticated aliens who can travel between planets decided to come to our beloved earth which is mainly made of water.

The Shyamalan "not quite what it seems to be" film par excellence, and excellence is indeed on show here. There is a huge matter of import to be conveyed by the film, and every scene from start to finish contributes smoothly and richly to that overall effect, whether it be a subtle or overt one, eccentric, scary, engaging, humorous or deeply moving (and all of these states of mind and emotion are to be found in abundance).

Signs is a film written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan and, despite being one of the science fiction films with lower reviews, I think this is without a doubt one of the best films about extraterrestrial life ever made.

Quietly suspenseful, if there is such a thing. It's more performance and atmosphere driven than action or suspense driven.

I love generally spooky films. This movie is really unlike no other.
