On the train ride to his father's estate, the same tree passes by Baron Wolf Frankenstein's train window several times.

When Inspector Krogh first warns Wolf Frankenstein to use the alarm bell to summon him he has no monocle.

He has it in the camera angle with the two of them together but not in the close-up of the inspector.

When Wolf von Frankenstein is arguing with Krogh in the castle lobby (73 minutes), he removes his hat and throws it at the high-backed chair to the left of the fireplace.

It lands on the floor in front of and to the left of the chair.

Later in the scene, the hat switches to the right of and behind the chair.

Later still, in the same location, the hat has now flipped upside down.

Frankenstein's coat, which was thrown on the floor to the left of the chair also shifts position (to the seat of the chair, in this case).

When Wolf Frankenstein is throwing darts, the position of the darts changes between shots.

When Inspector Krogh fires his last shot at the monster, there is no corresponding gunshot on the sound track.

When Wolf (and the audience) sees the sulfur pit for the first time, you can see the body of The Monster sinking to the bottom.

(Obviously an unused shot recycled from the end of the film.

) Although the culture is Germanic, Police Inspector Krogh refers to his men as "gendarmes" - which is French.

I saw this fine old shocker again recently, thanks to the splendid DVD with its sparkling print, having not seen it for almost 3 decades. It is usually considered inferior to the two earlier James Whale films but I disagree.

Frankenstein (1931) and Bride of Frankenstein (1935) are two legendary films in the horror genre. They are both better than this entry but anyone expecting a huge drop off in quality once Whale left the series is in for a pleasant surprise.

Rowland V. Lee took over as director for this sequel, set many years later, with Basil Rathbone as Wolf Frankenstein, younger son of(now deceased) Henry, determined to claim his father's inheritance by returning to his German homeland from America with his wife and son.

From a visual presentation, "Son of Frankenstein" is fantastic. It features some of the best sets of the series.

Dr. Frankenstein's son Wolf (Basil Rathbone) finds his father's monster in a coma, but the treacherous Ygor (Bela Lugosi) persuades Wolf to save the monster.

The character of Wolf and the inspector, and the scenes between them were definitely the best aspect of this movie. With the story and everything to do with the monster probably being the weakest.

The first two Frankenstein movies are true classics: FRANKENSTEIN still possesses an eerie power that is only enhanced by it primitiveness while BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN is gorgeous and operatic. SON OF FRANKENSTEIN isn't as groundbreaking as the first film nor does it reach the heights of the second, but it's still good fun and boasts a wonderful expressionist aesthetic right out of the German school of horror filmmaking (plus it gave YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN a lot of material, so there's that).

A film who impress. for the build of atmosphere, step by step.

This is one of the best sequels in the Universal Monsters series! The monsters look great!
