Like watching all the cringe of a low budget Joker, except none of the good. It was just slow, and really depressing.
Personally I don't like movies with gratuitous violence, however you might appreciate the unexpected story twist.
I think Jesse is a super performer, and I love this movie.

I started this movie thinking I was walking into a comedy, surely enough I was somewhat thrown off by the dark mood of the film from the beginning. It did have some funny moments but nothing like I expected from other Jesse Eisenberg movies.
When I saw the previews of this movie a year ago I was interested, luckily I didn't waste money at the theater. I watched on Hulu because I had nothing else to watch.
"Shot in an overtly frugal budget with subdued lighting, mostly interior, THE ART OF SELF-DEFENSE's most prudent movie is to assign a charismatic Nivola the role of Sensei, the amiable mentor figure who can simultaneously telegraph earnestness and dispassionateness in the same breath, despite of Sensei's blinkered bigotry, we cannot blame Casey for knuckle under his mental indoctrination because Nivola makes him impossible to resist, even after we are fully convinced that he is the bane of any sane being's life, on the off chance, we still wish he might have some justification up in his sleeves. Slowly evolving into one of the most versatile actors of his generation, Nivola has his brilliance seep into Sensei's every ruthless action, manipulative ploy and assertive delivery, could he be a cult leader, devotees would be come running.
The plot twists tend to be very obvious, and yet often things don't happen the way you might think they will. Characters are over exaggerated in quirky ways.
Well i didn't enjoy watching that! I mean it might have some meaning or wanted to say something and stuff But I didn't get that that much and well I didn't feel special after it ended!
