The influence of this film simply cannot be over-stated. It is not only a picture that exemplifies German Expressionist cinema but it also arguably invented the horror film too.

Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, The (1919) *** 1/2 (out of 4) This horror classic from director Robert Wiene is the perfect example of what German Expressionist is all about.

One of the very first and very best. i see more fantastic surreal details every time i view it,i am an artist with a long history in stage and window display work and this 1920's masterpiece is still very intense after 80 years, one wonders how it was viewed at the time ?.

A deadly prophecy at a carnival sideshow comes to pass, and the hunt is on for the killer.Interesting movie, but mostly for the set design and the performances and make-up of the two villains.

The first time I saw this movie I did not think much of it. Well, I've been wrong before, and was once again proved wrong here.

Robert Wiene's 1920 classic, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, was one of the first silent films I saw, if not the very first.

Ok, so there's kind of an opinion floating around saying that "old horror movies aren't scary" this movie proves that wrong, despite this movie being 100 years old as of 2/26/2020, it is still on of the most creepy, atmospheric and well made horror films of all time! everything from the set design, the lighting, to the music, to the acting, to cinematography is creepy and builds up the mood, rather than just throwing something at the screen and saying "boo" the horror is built and more psychological than most horror films of today, although it probably has the first stabbing scene caught on film, it is not gory or rely on gross effects to scare you.

The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari is a 1920 silent horror film directed by Rober Wiene and starring Werner Krauss, Conrad Veidt and Friedrich Feher.

A simple plot, but with a great execution, a gem every cinephile must discover, "The Cabinet...¨ is among the best of the best, even for its time.
