Look closely at Dr.

Markway as he folds his paper at the breakfast table and you can see he is holding a cigarette in his left hand.

In the very next shot, Markway is holding the cigarette in his right hand instead.

When Eleanor runs into a room in Hill House, a close-up shot shows a mirror fall off a mantle on its own.

However, a wire is visible attached to the middle of the back of the mirror and going through a hole in the middle of the wall behind it.

When the mirror falls, the wire goes slack as the wire feeds out of the hole in the wall, meaning the wire was held taut to hold the mirror up on the mantle until it was time to release the wire.

Because the story was filmed in England, but set in the United States, Eleanor passes a house with a sign reading "To Let" instead of "For Rent".

When Nell leaves the Boston garage, we can see through her car's back window that there are two English policemen standing on a street corner.

When Nell is leaving the Garage in Boston, she sees a signpost that is, for the most part correct with respect to route numbers and directions for the towns indicated.

However, one sign refers to "US 50" and Nell then reads aloud her directions to take "US 50 from Boston and watch for the turn-off to Route 238.

" US 50 is nowhere near Boston; prior to the advent of the Interstate system of highways, US Route 50 was one of the principal highways that went straight through the middle of the country from Maryland on the East coast to California on the west coast.

- PLOTThe storyline takes place in New England during the month of August.

The time frame being August is mentioned several times in the movie, and yet the cast wears heavy winter clothing during much of the film.

The character played by 'Claire Bloom (I)' (qv) even arrives at Hill House wearing a leopard coat.

Several characters arrive wearing winter coats, and "Theo," played by 'Claire Bloom (I)' (qv), even arrives at Hill House wearing a leopard coat.

For a scientist, Dr.

Markway exhibits an astonishing lack of scientific curiosity regarding the "Help Eleanor Come Home" writing on the wall they discover.

He tells Luke to wipe it off the wall, without even taking photographs of the writing or samples of the chalk-like substance used to write it.

I only saw this film recently even though it's been out for almost 10 years now - but I definitely think that it's worth watching. The film builds pretty slowly and the house itself if wonderfully mad in its layout - leading to some pretty good set pieces.

I liked this movie. It seemed to be a throw back to the Hitchcockian type of horror/suspense movies where the writers and acting left a lot of the scary stuff to the viewers imagination.

"No one lives any nearer than town. No one will come any nearer than that.

Hill House has stood for about 90 years and appears haunted: its inhabitants have always met strange, tragic ends. Now Dr.

Perhaps this is a movie that appeals only to certain people. Perhaps it has to be viewed at a particular moment in life.

Dr. David Marrow (Liam Neeson) is doing research on sleep disorders.

It's beautifully made, especially the couple who works at the mansion, i.e.

Troubled young pediatrician Francesca (a fine and appealing performance by Ana Torrent) is traumatized after losing a child to crib death. When Francesca and her family move to a new house in the country, Francesca begins to suspect that the remote abode might be harboring a few terrible secrets that push her to the brink of madness.

That's really the most powerful, terrifying haunted house story ever told. I recently watched INCIDIOUS 2, THE CONJURING and DARK SKIES, and those features, quite effective, are far below THE HAUNTING.
