Amount of dirt on Ben's hands when Kemp drags him through the cave.

When Howard Kemp is talking to Lina at the end of the film, Ben moves his head and it is obvious that he is not dead.

The camera quickly cuts away.

As Roy Anderson climbs a rope up the cliff side, the cable holding him safely in place is visible alongside the rope.

In the opening sequence when Jesse Tate turns to face Howard Kemp, in one shot (from behind him) his hands are low (behind him).

In the next shot from behind Kemp, Jesse's hands are raised.

In the cave face-off scene, after Stewart (Kemp) gives Ryan (Vandergroat) the pistol, in 5 subsequent scenes the pistol alternates from being inside his vest, to outside his vest, to inside, to outside, and finally to outside but leaning way over about to fall out of his pants.

In the scene changes, Ryan supposedly didn't move except to lower his hands during the first sequence of the scene, but when the camera changed from Stewart to Ryan and back several times, each time the pistol position alternated from inside the vest to outside.

Right after Jesse offers to rub Ben's shoulder, he places his hand on Ben's left shoulder.

In the next shot, Jesse is still holding his rifle with both hands.

When Jesse is shot, a short rock wall is seen right behind him.

In all later shots of him laying dead, he's seen in the middle of a flat rocky area.

Also, when he's shot, he begins to crouch forward but in later shots is seen lying on his back.

When Howard and Jesse meet Lieutenant Roy Anderson for the first time, Howard asks for his discharge papers, which states he has a dishonorable discharge.

Officers do not receive dishonorable discharges; an officer found guilty in a court martial receives a dismissal.

Otherwise, they may retire or resign their commissions.

The movie is set in March of 1868; as denoted by the wanted poster and Lt.

Roy Anderson's discharge papers; however the revolver used throughout the movie is the Colt Model 1873 Single Action Army.

Also the the rifle should be the Winchester Model 1866 "Yellow Boy" so named because of its yellow colored receiver; it is obviously a later model Winchester lacking the coloration.

After Kemp is shot and works through his delirium, he is shown limping to his horse, unable to put weight on his right leg.

Mere hours later, when he is thrown from his horse, he scrambles back up the hill using his right leg for propulsion and dragging his left leg behind him.

The Naked Spur (Anthony Mann, 1953) The stellar achievement of The Naked Spur is that it has only five speaking roles in it, which is not an easy thing to accomplish for a 90-minute film. Each of these roles is a solid, well-realized character, strong performances by all the actors.

A western movie but don't expect shootouts. It's more a story driven movie, think John Wayne's the shootist.

The Naked Spur is a 1953 Western directed by Anthony Mann and starring James Stewart, Janet Leigh and Robert Ryan. This was a pleasant surprise, I knew close to nothing about this film and it turned out to be really good.

The only western jimmy stewart was any good in was "cheyenne social club" mainly because of his sidekick henry fonda and a great supporting cast of lovely women ...

If you can get past the dumb title, this is a heckuva good outdoor western, filmed in majestic southwestern Colorado. It's four untrustworthy guys and one eye-candy woman trying to make it to Abilene, where three of the guys can collect a big reward for the fourth.

Perhaps one of a special hybrid of western-noir adventure The Naked Spur effectively blends genres to deliver a satisfying story that resonates long after the final scene. From the start we wonder what's up in this mysterious western as Stewart's Kemp sneaks up on a prospector camped out in the Colorado Mountains.

I never realized what a scene-stealer ROBERT RYAN could be until I saw THE NAKED SPUR. Although JAMES STEWART is the nominal big name star, it's Ryan's charming, snake-like villain who dominates this rugged western despite strong performances from the entire cast.

"The Naked Spur" is an unusual Western, there being only five characters in the whole movie if you discount a brief appearance of a band of Indians. Thus we are able to see each character in detail and what motivates him or her.

An awesome rugged Western masterfully directed by Anthony Mann including his ordinary star, James Stewart . A bounty hunter called Howard Kemp (James Stewart) trying to bring a murderer to justice is forced to accept the help of two less-than-trustworthy strangers (Millard Mitchell , Ralph Meeker) .
