While most of the money shown taken in the bank robberies were of the correct design for the time period (the first act was set in 1997), there is a scene in the police department evidence room that shows a stack of stolen $20s.

The bill on top is a redesigned $20 with the large head portrait, which was not introduced until 1998.

The sound of the Honda XR motorcycle varies from 2-stroke to 4-stroke and from single cylinder to 4 cylinder throughout the film.

The beginning of the film takes place in the 1990s.

The General Electric sign is shown with red and green lights.

During this time, however, these colors were used only for Christmas time.

It is clearly summer time when the film takes place, therefore the lights should have been white.

However, in recent years, the lights remain red and green all year round.

In the swimming pool scene, Avery is lit by diffuse skylight as he rests on the edge of the pool.

After the last cut to Al, which lasts only a few seconds, Avery is lit by bright sunlight.

A Schenectady Police officer is seen to be wearing a Colonie Police Department jacket.

When Avery is in pursuit of Luke he initially states that he has a visual of the suspect heading south.

Luke then turns left, now heading west, which is relayed, then left again which is then relayed as heading north rather than south.

The first act was set in 1997 but the first bike ridden in the bank robberies was a Suzuki DRZ400s which was produced first produced in 2000.

2-stroke and 4-stroke sound of motorcycle mixing continuously.

It could have been better good acting might have carried it, but the absolutely clichéd soundtrack started grating on me early. And the most surprising thing about the ending is that anyone would think it was believable.

What really caught my eye about "The Place Beyond the Pines" is how the focus shifts as the movie progresses. First it's about Luke, then it's about Avery, lastly it's about the sons.

Derek Cianfrance's The Place Beyond the Pines is one of those rare movies that deserve every Academy Award available, but will end up getting Best Interracial Relationship on Film or some vague award that's solely included in the Academy Awards Gone Wild DVD release. And that's a shame, as the film handles heavy relationships between random people that hasn't been approached with such effectiveness since 2004's Traffic.

I am sorry if I compare this movie a lot with "Drive" I think that they are very similar movies (style and characters), except that this movie is less violent."The place beyond the pines" is about Luke.

I saw a trailer and a few clips from this film while it was in cinemas, and it was recommended rather well on Film 2012 with Claudia Winkleman and Danny Leigh, and other sources, so I was certainly going to watch it, and for the good cast involved. Basically the film is made up of three parts, all related to each other, the title by the way is the English meaning of the city of Schenectady, New York, which is derived loosely from a Mohawk word for "place beyond the pine plains.

The first one hour of the movie is just brilliant from the story to the camera or actors performance. Second half of the story loses the power by trying to tell us much more than what was needed.

The overall story is a good one. A petty crook gets his comeuppance at the hands of a young cop, then years later their teenage sons get themselves into a bind without knowing the whole story.

The trailer would lead you to believe this is an action movie surrounding a guy on a motorbike who robs banks. While the first half of the movie does surround the bank robber, the actual action is few and far between.

This movie is an emotional roller coaster to say the least. You will be gripping your seat one moment and the next moment on the verge of crying.
