When Ben and Clint first enter the saloon and the livery stable in Mineral city, Clint's two-gun rig is hidden by his coat.

When Clint follows Stark into the livery stable, his guns are strapped on the outside and over his coat, yet when they ride out of town, his guns are back under the coat.

When the Jay Hawkers are collecting money from Clark Gable, during a close up view of him, in the far distance behind him, you can see what is a vehicle, maybe a truck moving along a road or highway.

This is supposed to be 1866.

A solid, fair pice of 'westernery' ... but still ...

Tension simmers between two brothers and a businessman working on a cattle drive together as the older brother and businessman compete for the affections of a woman accompanying them in this semi-comedic western. Clark Gable and Robert Ryan are both fine as the vying lovers in question, however, it is Jane Russell who truly makes the film as the mutual object of their affection.

The Tall Men is directed by Raoul Walsh and stars Clark Gable, Jane Russell, Cameron Mitchell and Robert Ryan. Produced out of 20th Century Fox by William A.

This is one of those "Big Promise" color movies of the mid-50s. And judged in that light, then a big failure.

Boys own story with amazing footage of horses in deep snow. A gripping story line cobbled together very well with full components of a good western.

Robert Ryan's character, Nathan Stark, is based upon a real person, Nelson Storey, who struck it rich near the boomtown of Virginia City, MT(renamed Mineral City in the film) and, in 1866, drove a herd of Texas Longhorns north from Texas to meet the pent up demand for beef among the gold miners. As in the film, he did encounter trouble from jayhawkers when he tried to drive his cattle through Kansas, he did have a major encounter with the Sioux in Wyoming, and the army did try to prevent him from proceeding further along the Bozeman Trail, because of Native American hostility.

One of my favorite movies. Cameron Mitchell's character is Clark Gable's younger brother, and needs his older brother's strong hand to keep him under control.

The Tall Men is not necessarily a bad movie, in fact when it starts it is actually quite good. It is an example of a movie that meanders at one point(in this case just before the half-way mark) and never quite recovers which is a shame really.

Raoul Walsh entered films in 1912 as assistant director to D. W.
