At the very end, when the women are riding in the wagons going to meet their husbands, the Italian woman is seen in two different places on the same wagon.

A couple of the dead women are still seen breathing heavily after the second Indian attack.

Laurie is seen grabbing a couple of the women's arms after they remove her dead body out of the wagon during the thunderstorm.

In the movie, which was supposed to be set in 1851, Buck is using, what appears to be, a Colt 45 Peacemaker.

Only problem is, this type of revolver was not invented until the 1870's.

All the rifles used in the film are single shot, M1867 Remington Rolling Blocks.

As the model number suggests, they hadn't been invented until 16 years AFTER the the year (1851) the film portrays.

All Pistols used are the Colt SAA 1873 (Single Action Army) in various barrel lengths (4.

5" - 6.

The only pistols available at that time were single shot percussion (cap & ball) and Colt percussion revolvers such as the Colt 1851 Navy.

An unvarnished look at the hard road that a group of women settlers have to face on a wagon train journey to California. Nothing is glamorized and the cost of the trip is honestly depicted as heavy with human lives.

It's 1851 California. Roy Whitman has tamed the best valley for wheat, horses, and men.

Best thing about this ok western is the general competence and grit of the ladies that certainly goes against the prevailing chauvinism of the early 50s when this film was made. Also commendable is William Mellor's gritty, dusty, yet at times lovely cinematography that mirrors the miseries and occasional splendor of the trek west.

This gritty, dusty Western offers it all -- a superb cast, a gripping plot that captures the travails of pioneer life, and stunning, filmed-on-location backdrops of desert, scrub, and butte.I'd never thought of Frank Capra, an immigrant himself, as a writer, but this imaginative saga comes from his pen.

A thrillingly authentic movie actually filmed on the California overland trail. It deals with a farmer called Roy Whitman , John McIntire , hires a guide , Buck , to bring women to his farm in the California Valley.

A brilliant slice of pioneer-era Americana. In no other movie that comes to mind was there such a realistic portrayal of the Old West and its numerous perils than in this faithfully told story of pioneer women crossing the harsh western U.

This has been my favorite movie from the first time I saw it as a kid. When Videos first came about, I sought this on lists of new releases as often as I came across such lists.

A top ten favorite. From the first time I tuned in partway through, this movie has been special to me.
