Ever since I saw Umberto Lenzi's Adventure/Cannibal movie Man From Deep River I have made it a quest to discover all the great foreign horror films that are out there and lost to average people. While this film may not apply, I have made it a quest to be an abnormal person hah.
When George A. Romero's "Night of the Living Dead" was released in 1968, it stunned and revolted audiences with its then envelope-pushing images of graphic zombie carnage.
ZOMBIE is Director Lucio Fulci's greatest addition to the living dead sub-genre. From the opening "ghost ship" scene in the New York harbor, to the hellish island, to the apocalyptic denouement, this film captures the sheer dread and doom of a rotting, flesh-rending holocaust.
Great soundtrack with amazing makeup and although cheesy acting, it's easily overlooked for the film is tense throughout. The plot is simple and captures a sense of dispair because it is not plagued with heroes but regular people trying to survive.
I had no idea that this scary movie was banned in Great Britain when I read about it, but it does make sense, because of the level of bloody violence in it, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was included in the list of video nasties during their controversy. Basically a boat drifts into New York Harbour, there appears to be no-one on board, but the two Coast Guard officers investigating get attacked by a zombie, one is killed and the other shoots the monster which falls overboard.
I'll tell you what, I love a good zombie movie. And even better if the special effects made me look away in Horror.
Being of a "certain" age and being British, I was firmly around at the time of the ridiculous "video nasty" mania that swept the UK in the early 1980s. Films that usually involved cannibals, either ferox, holocaust or zombified, and torture porn revengers et al, were banned, prosecuted or given a Viking burial at sea.
Beautiful horror film with excellent special effects. Great music and good actors.
N newspaper reported named Peter goes on an trip with a woman named Anne to try to discover what happened to her father. What they discover is an island where the natives still practice voodoo and have started to bring the dead back to life.
