Javier Bardem may just be one of the finest actors of his generation, and his role as a paraplegic fighting for the right to die added another impressive notch to his already eclectic body of work.El Mar Adentro has its share of beautiful moments, and it treated its core issue with sensitivity and intelligence (for the most part).

The value of life should never rest on quality, not length.

This may very well be the best of Amenábar's work to date. I've seen all he's completed thus far, as of and including Tesis.

Alejandro Amenabar's The Sea Inside delivers the story of Ramon Sampedro, a man beseeching the Spanish justices to tolerate euthanasia on his behalf. The film seemingly sympathizes with its main character's wishes as the majority of the characters are willing to assist Sampedro in his plight.

The film The Sea Inside, written, directed, and produced by Alejandro Amenabar in 2004, stars actor Javier Bardem playing the role of Ramon Sampedro, a quadriplegic man who over a span of thirty years fights for his legal right to assisted suicide. Other than the family with which he lives the film features two significant women -- one a lawyer and the other a resident of the same village.

I hated No Country for Old Men. So much, I didn't realize who Javier Bardem was until I saw The Sea Within.

"The sea inside" tells the true story of Ramon Sampedro. Ramon Sampedro commited suicide in 1998 after being paralyzed for 26 years because of a broken neck (diving into undeep water).

The Sea Inside is a fantastic Spanish film starring Javier Bardem as a quadriplegic who wants to end his life with dignity. I know that a lot of people will condemn this film for supporting euthanasia and giving a one-sided debate, but this isn't a film about a euthanasia debate.

Watched this movie for the second time in my life. In my mind it was more dramatic but still dramatic enough!
